Heard the same. People got codes from Cathay employees and bypassed the queue by using third party search engine to look up the Cathay flights they want. I know people who got the tickets this way. Such a BS.

I know people who jumped the line by using third party search engine. They looked up the Cathay flights they want on these sites, bypass the queue by clicking on the flight, and used the promotion code they got from Cathay employees to book those flights. I didn’t know until later this was what happened.

What a freaking shame that Cathay handled the lottery like this.

Unfortunately for anything “free” ($400 vs $2000+) the reality is you’re competing against a lot of other people. They didn’t geo restrict the queuing or the free tickets, so lots of people who weren’t in North America also queued up.

I was logged into my Cathay account on another tab. I had an email with a link that took me directly to the queue. I clicked the link and it already had over 100K in the queue. There was no way there could be 100K in the queue in less than 30 seconds. Total garbage promo! There just should have been a lottery with a code sent after winning!

I used to love Cathay as it was my airline’s major Asia partner. Not anymore! The communists ruined Hong Kong!
